SCBS March Monthly Link Up: Street Style

So there is no excuse why it has been too long since a post was done on the site. Thanks to life and chaos getting in the way, I let too much time go by which just won't happen anymore! I am excited to be back with our monthly link up for 2015 and have an awesome blogger that's hosting! Remember,  each month a new topic will be announced to SCBS members and bloggers can create a post based around that topic. On top of seeing how our members interpret different topics, there will also be a "Head Blogger" who will lead the link up and start off the monthly topic. I am so excited for this month's head blogger, Chelsea of Strand Style Fashion! This month's chosen topic is "Street Style"! We changed the questions around this month to relate to the topic so lets hear it for Chelsea!

How did you get started shooting street style? I worked for the local newspaper the Easy Reader News and was ask to do a once-a-month style blog for the local mall the South Bay Galleria - I started noticing how stylish the local girls were, and instead of shooting my own fashion (because I don't have much of a personal sense of style), I started shooting theirs.

What street style trends are you loving this season? My two favorite trends are the backpack bag and the bucket bag - So far I've found the perfect Kate Spade bucket bag, but I'm still trying to track down the perfect Coach backpack. I also love everything about how earrings have morphed into art pieces. They don't just hang off your ear now, they hang around, over and through your ear.

How do you approach people on the street? Before taking a picture I always ask the person I'm about to photograph if I have their permission. I introduce myself and say what I do, and then I always compliment them on their style and point out a specific piece that I love about what they're wearing, or how they're wearing it. I probably get a 95% 'yes' rate. Early on I realized that even though it seems strange to approach a stranger about their style, what you're doing is acknowledging that they're awesome and it will always make their day.

How do you pick a person to photograph?

I don't always photograph the most stylish or trendiest people I see - I photograph people who have something different about their style. It could be a really great statement piece, a fanny pack or even a wonderfully goofy hat. Sometimes I'll go home and edit photos and realize that it's not what the person is wearing, but how they are wearing it that make them perfect to showcase their street style. I love colors, crazy hair and a big smile.

SCBS November Monthly Link Up: What Are You Thankful For?

Happy Tuesday SoCal bloggers! Does anyone else refuse to accept that fact that Thanksgiving is only two days away and Christmas is literally right around the corner!?I am excited as always about this month's link up! Each month a new topic will be announced to SCBS members and bloggers can create a post based around that topic. On top of seeing how our members interpret different topics, there will also be a "Head Blogger" who will lead the link up and start off the monthly topic. I am so excited for this month's head blogger, Lyndsay of The Balanced Brunette! This month's chosen topic is "What I am Thankful For This Year"! So take it away Lyndsay!

What are you thankful for most this year?
This year, I am thankful for my parents. As cliché as that sounds, it's true. My parents have been extremely supportive this year; from paying my rent when I didn't have it, to buying my plane ticket to fly back home this Christmas. It hasn't all been about money, either. When I was unsure of what my next step was, my parents offered for me to move back home while I figured it out. They helped me job search and they gave me great advice, but the best part? They allow me to be myself and find my own answers. They're supportive as I carve my own path. I am incredibly thankful to have such amazing parents!

What made you decide to start your blog?
I've been writing since age 8, and journalism was my original major in college. Last December (2013), I was looking for an outlet. I had been health coaching the year prior, and it was becoming more clear to me how important mental health goes alongside physical health. I wanted to write about living a healthy active lifestyle while having bipolar disorder. It wasn't only a creative outlet for myself; I wanted to reach others and help them, too! Blogging was (and still is) the perfect way to join my passions of healthy living and writing.

What is your favorite thing to do in Southern California in the fall?
This is only my second fall in Southern California, so I'm still finding things to do! Last year, I didn't get out much as I was in a bipolar depression. However, I went to the LA Zoo a few times, and it was the highlight of the season for me! I love animals (who doesn't?!), and I would get hours of exercise while channeling my inner child. Fall weather is my absolute favorite, plus the changing leaves remind me of home (Ohio)!

What are the three items in your closet you can't live without?
1. Black leggings.
2. TOMS classics.
3. Michael Kors bag.

SCBS October Monthly Link Up: Favorite Natural and Organic Item

Happy Tuesday SoCal bloggers! I cannot believe October is coming to a close and we are into fall! I am excited as always about this month's link up! Each month a new topic will be announced to SCBS members and bloggers can create a post based around that topic. On top of seeing how our members interpret different topics, there will also be a "Head Blogger" who will lead the link up and start off the monthly topic. I am so excited for this month's head blogger, Dianna of Blue Luna Naturals! This month's chosen topic is Favorite Natural and Organic Item. So take it away Dianna!
What is your favorite natural and organic item?
It is a tie between Coconut Oil and my blueLUNA Organic Soaps!  Coconut Oil has so many amazing uses!  I use it on my skin as a natural makeup remover and moisturizer, use it on my hair once a week as a deep-moisture mask, and of course, use it in my cooking.

What made you decide to start your blog
I've been playfully regarded as a younger version of Martha Stewart due to my love of creating crafts, new recipes, and everything DIY.  My creativity sometimes has me feeling like I pull myself in so many directions as I love to do so many different things.  I also love to write, and having been a blogger for Working Mother Magazine a few years ago, creating my own blog made perfect sense.  It allowed me to share my creativity with anyone and everyone, and to specifically focus on my passion of making DIY as "naturalistic" as I can.

What is your favorite thing to do in Southern California in the fall?
Fall in Southern California is magical to me. As a mother, it signifies so many things.....Halloween, the approaching Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, decorating my home with all of the wonderful fall fashions, and participating in those fantastic fall festivals that come complete with strewn hay and caramel apples.  We are able to start wearing our "Autumn Boots" and cozy sweaters, and begin filling our houses with the warm scent of cinnamon and apples.  Carving pumpkins, venturing out to apple orchards, enjoying the crisp air that only one experiencing it in SoCal could appreciate, and sitting by fires (outside preferably) all are part of what make our beloved state so special during the fall.  All that said, it is impossible for me to choose just one thing....I love the whole season, and I can't imagine experiencing it anywhere but in Southern California.

What are the three items in your closet you can't live without?
My reddish-brown riding boots, several brightly colored scarves, and a pair of leggings.

Don't forget to follow Dianna's blog and find her on Facebook and Twitter!

SCBS September Monthly Link Up: Favorite Fall Handbag

Happy Tuesday SoCal bloggers! I cannot believe September is coming to a close and we are into fall! I am excited as always about this month's link up! Each month a new topic will be announced to SCBS members and bloggers can create a post based around that topic. On top of seeing how our members interpret different topics, there will also be a "Head Blogger" who will lead the link up and start off the monthly topic. I am so excited for this month's head blogger, Annalee of Hello, Handbag! This month's chosen topic is Favorite Fall Handbag. So take it away Annalee!

1. What is your favorite fall handbag?
The Fiona by Brenda MacLeod. There's room for everything, the lining is dreamy, and that cognac color is just delicious.

2. What made you decide to start your blog?
I couldn't find reliable information about great handbags in my price range. I love Prada and Hermes, but there's no way I could afford those! There are so many beautiful bags available at a more reasonable cost but I didn't know how to find the right one for me. So I started Hello, Handbag as a way to altruistically share my research with others, and selfishly do some virtual window shopping!

 3. What is your favorite thing to do in Southern California, now that the weather is starting to cool down?
I absolutely LOVE the outdoor movies! We're so lucky to live in an area where we can go outside pretty much any night of the year. There are a few coming up, I'd love to connect with other bloggers going! If you're headed out to one give me a shout at @hello_handbag

 4. What are the three items in your closet you can't live without?
1) I LOVE my Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Groovee satchel. It was a graduation gift from my mom and my sister, if my house caught on fire I would save that bag!

2) I found a pair of nude Michael Kors pumps at a thrift store and they just go with everything. They're the perfect height for work, and I take them straight to night looks when there's no time to get home in between. I found mine for $10 (steal!) but they're on Amazon for under $100

 3) I find myself reaching for my Lauren Conrad blazer constantly. I found it in a gorgeous coral color and it's great with jeans, pencil skirts, trousers, you name it! And it's on sale at Kohl's right now for $42!

SCBS August Monthly Link Up: Favorite Summer Essential

Happy Tuesday SoCal bloggers! I cannot believe that August is coming to a close and summer is quickly ending and we are already into fall! I am excited as always about this month's link up! Each month a new topic will be announced to SCBS members and bloggers can create a post based around that topic. On top of seeing how our members interpret different topics, there will also be a "Head Blogger" who will lead the link up and start off the monthly topic. I am so excited for this month's head blogger, Vanessa of Vanessa's Runway! This month's chosen topic is Favorite Summer Essential. So take it away Vanessa!
What is your favorite summer essential?
A fun pair of sunglasses! The funkier the better. Summer is all about bright bold colors and I feel like nothing compliments a summer outfit better than some vibrant shades. I like picking them up from random little stores to Old Navy, H&M and F21. The fun options are endless and inexpensive!

What made you decide to start your blog?
Vanessa’s Runway is my creative outlet. Working at an ad agency gets a little hectic, so my blog is where I discuss fun topics like fashion finds, DIY ideas and share local spotlights in the OC area. It’s great to meet so many wonderful bloggers that have so much to say and share, I love being part of this little community.

What is your favorite thing to do in Southern California. in the summer specifically?
Anything near the beach! The weather is fantastic and nothing beats bottomless mimosas by the beach.

What are the three items in your closet you can't live without?
A pair of great flats, skinny jeans and a little black dress – they’re the quintessential items every girl should have.

SCBS Contributor: Hello, Handbag

Happy Thursday! I am so excited about today's post because I own this purse in purple and I can't get enough of mine. Annalee of Hello Handbag shares her latest handbag purchase with us! Take it away Annalee....

I'd like to introduce you to my new favorite bag, the Cupid by Rebecca Minkoff. To help, I enlisted another favorite, my sweet dog Parker.

I first said hello to the Cupid at a Rebecca Minkoff sample sale (more about the sample sale here). I've always liked Rebecca Minkoff but never enough to seek one out. I went to the sample sale on a lark with my dear friend Erin of It's the Style File. And you know what happened next... I fell in love.
Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag size comparison to iPad photo by Hello Handbag
The first thing I noticed about the Cupid is it's size. It's perfect, don't you think? It isn't that tall, but it widens at the base so virtually anything fits. I'm currently carrying a phone, camera, sunnies in a case, three sets of keys (don't ask), a business card holder, a makeup bag, and an iPad, and still have room to spare. You can see the size compared to my iPad above. Parker is a big fan as well - she knows there's a treat inside! Actual dimensions are 12" x 12" x 6.5" (with a 9" top handle drop). Additional shoulder strap is about 22".
Here's a view of the triangular shape. This shows off one of the Cupid's best assets - fantastic pockets! There are two side pockets (one on the other side of the bag) that are great for storing the little things. I use these as jewelry holders when I go to the gym straight after work. They keep everything nice and separated, and I never have to hunt for what I'm looking for.

There are two pockets on the front, one open pocket with a magnetic closure behind the envelope flap and a second zippered pocket below the flap. I tend to keep go-tos, like lip gloss, in the open pocket, and more valuable quick grabs (like cash) in the zippered area. Inside the bag are three slip pockets and a generously sized zipper pocket.

Here's Parker modeling the other side of the bag. The hardware is beautiful, and can we just talk about the color? Rebecca Minkoff calls this "blood orange." I've also seen it called "neon orange" and "bright orange," but those don't capture the red undertones. The bag photographs more red than it is. I've never had a bag this color before, it goes with everything. My favorite pairings are with blue or gray, but it goes well with a pair of bright pink pants too!

The gold hardware, particularly the clasps, are just gorgeous. Above are the clasps for the top handles, below for the shoulder strap.

If you're looking for a new fall bag, this is the one you need. It retails for $425, but you can sometimes find deals. Here are a few:
  • Piperlime has a bright blue version for $295, with an extra 30% off if you sign up for their newsletter!
  • Zappos has four colors for $319: white, navy, biscuit (a light tan) and soft gray
  • Sign up for Rebecca Minkoff's newsletters to get 15% off.
In LA? Visit the Rebecca Minkoff store in LA in the Silver Lake area:
4661 Hollywood Boulevard
LA, CA 90046

Your turn! What would you style with a bag this color?
